最初、2016年に「WRITER」という店名で誕生しました。万年筆やノートをはじめ、マスキングテープ、ステッカー、スタンプまで幅広く取り揃え、地元の人に愛されてきました。その後、アーティストやジャーナリング好き、文具ファンが集うコミュニティへと成長。2022年6月には、さらに魅力的な場所になるべく、ユネスコ世界遺産に登録されているジョージタウンの中心にある、歴史的な建物をリノベーションしたショップハウス「P.66」に移転することを決めました。あわせて、店名を「WRITER in P.66」に変更し、カフェやセレクトショップ、そしてコミュニティスペースが融合した新たな空間の中で展開しています。
この店は、文具をこよなく愛するデニーさんとブライアンさん夫婦によって運営されています。日本の文具店を巡る旅のなかで訪れたトラベラーズファクトリーでの体験が、二人の原点となりました。その時の思い出を思い返しながら、デニーさんはこう語ってくれました。
「今では子育てと店舗の運営に追われ、毎日慌ただしく過ごしていますが、約10年前は、まだ若く子どももいませんでした。そんな中で訪れたトラベラーズファクトリーは、初めて訪れたにもかかわらず、どこか懐かしく、温かく包み込まれるような雰囲気がありました。2階では、コーヒーを片手にゆったりと過ごしました。そこで、大きなテーブルで日記を書く人々の姿が印象に残りました。そして、いつかペナンにもこのような人の心を動かす場所をつくりたいという想いへとつながったのです。」
こうして誕生した「WRITER in P.66」は、ペナンの伝統建築の中にあって、忙しい日常の中でふと立ち止まり、アナログの手触りとともに自分の時間を取り戻せる場所となっています。
Its origins trace back to the original “WRITER” founded in 2016, offering a wide range of stationery items like fountain pens, notebooks, washi tapes, stickers, and stamps.
The shop has gained a lot of love from stationery lovers across Malaysia. Over the years, WRITER has grown into a community where artists, journal users, and stationery enthusiasts gather and connect.
In June 2022, WRITER relocated to “P.66”, a beautifully renovated heritage shophouse in the heart of George Town, a well known UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, as “WRITER in P.66”, the space brings together stationery, a café, a curated retail selection, and a community area, creating a unique and inspiring destination.
The owners are a couple, Dennie and Bryan, both of whom are devoted stationery lovers. About a decade ago, during a journey exploring stationery shops in Japan, they visited TRAVELER’S FACTORY Nakameguro. This special experience became the starting point of their dream.
Recalling that moment, Dennie shared with us:
“I remember the first time we visited TRAVELER’S FACTORY about 10 years ago. At that time, we were a young couple and our baby wasn’t born yet. Now, as you can see, we are busy with the store operations! Although it was my first visit, the atmosphere felt strangely familiar and warmly welcoming. The time spent relaxing with a cup of coffee, and the sight of people writing in their journals around a large table on the second floor… all of it inspired us to one day create a place in Penang that could move and inspire others in the same way.”
Born from this vision, WRITER in P.66 embraces Penang’s traditional architecture while offering a space where visitors can pause their busy lives, reconnect with the tactile charm of analog tools, and rediscover their own time and rhythm.

ジョージタウンにある雑貨店「廣徳（KwongTuck）」は、昔にタイムスリップしたような感覚になる創業100年の老舗です。店内には、干し海産物やお茶、そして他ではなかなかお目にかかれないような珍しいものが、棚いっぱいに並んでいます。

廣徳（KwongTuck）のすぐ隣にあるTho Yuen Restaurantは、私にとって大切な思い出の場所。子どもの頃、よく両親に連れて行ってもらって、ここで鴻図麺（ホン・トゥー・ミェン）や炒河粉（チャ・ホーフン）、そして点心を食べました。シンプルでどこかホッとする、ペナン流の広東料理を実直に作り続けているお店です。その確かなおいしさで、最近でミシュランにも選べています。
My parents would bring me here for hoongthoo mee, char hor fun, and dim sum.
It’s simple, comforting Penang-style Cantonese food, done really well, and recently even recognized by Michelin.

私の子どもの頃の朝食の定番はいつもここでした。母は朝市（パサ・パギ）から帰ると、毎朝のように私をここに連れてきてくれました。今では観光客でずいぶん賑やかになりましたが、炭火で焼いたトースト、カヤジャム、バター、そしてコクのある地元のコーヒー「コピ・オー」の味は、あの頃と少しも変わっていません。
