Paper Plus Cloth には、日本をはじめ世界各地からセレクトしたノートやペンなどのステーショナリーに加え、日々の暮らしのなかで、何かを書いたり、ジャーナリングしたりするのを楽しくしてくれるような小物も並んでいます。創造性豊かな暮らしのヒントになったり、コミュニティ作りのため、定期的にイベントやワークショップを開催しています。

オーナーのロウェーナは、店をオープンした経緯やトラベラーズノートとの出会いについて語ってくれました。

「仕事で日本を訪れたとき、故郷カナダの文房具の品揃えがいかに乏しかったのかを実感しました。そこで日本に来るたびに文房具を集めていたのですが、2013年に、増えすぎた文房具を整理する目的も兼ねて小さなオンラインショップを開設したのが始まりでした。そして2017年の終わり、トロントにリアル店舗 Paper Plus Cloth をオープンしました」

「トラベラーズノートは、Paper Plus Clothに欠かせない、特別な存在です。ブルーエディションは、私が初めて手にした革のノートでした。そのノートに込められていた旅や創造性、未知の可能性といった精神が、そのまま今の店の雰囲気の源となっています。トラベラーズノートの自由度の高いカスタマイズ性は、店で開催するワークショップやミートアップの定番のテーマとして活躍しています。トラベラーズノートは、持つ人に内省の時間や冒険心、そして『ペンを紙に走らせる』というシンプルな喜びをもたらしてくれます。今も変わらず、お店とスタッフにとって一番のお気に入りです」

Paper Plus Cloth is a bustling shop with a curated collection of notebooks, pens and paper goods from Japan and beyond, along with the small tools and supplies that turn everyday writing and journaling into a joy. They also host regular events and workshops to build community and inspire a creative life.

Rowena, the owner of the shop, shared with us the story behind opening her shop and her deep affection for TRAVELER’S notebook.

During work trips to Japan, I saw how sparse the stationery selection was back home in Canada. In 2013 I started a small online shop to pare down the extra supplies I had started to collect, and in late 2017 I opened Paper Plus Cloth in Toronto.

TRAVELER’S notebook holds a special place in our story. The original Pan Am Blue Edition was my first leather journal, and its spirit of travel, creativity and possibility set the tone for the shop. Its versatile system has been a regular feature in many of our workshops and meetups. TRAVELER’S notebook invites reflection, adventure and the simple pleasure of putting pen to paper, and it remains a shop and staff favourite.

豊かな歴史と独特の個性が混じり合うエリアと呼ばれる、クイーン・ストリート・ウエストをモチーフにしました。中でも「ウエスト・クイーン・ウエスト」と呼ばれる一帯は、街の「アート＆デザイン地区」として世界にもその名を知られています。

Larry’s Place（カフェ）
パークデール地区で、美味しいコーヒーを飲んでひと息つきたい時に立ち寄りたいカフェ。ここでは、プリンス・エドワード・カウンティの自家焙煎所で焙煎した、こだわりのエスプレッソを味わうことができます。家族に伝わるレシピで作られるバタータルトは、まさに絶品。すぐに売り切れてしまうため、早めの時間帯に訪れるか、事前の予約をおすすめします。どこか懐かしい雰囲気の店内で少し休憩したら、再びクイーン・ストリート・ウエストの散策を続けるのもおすすめです。

Our go-to Parkdale café for a delicious coffee and a quick reset, with espresso from their own micro-roastery in Prince Edward County. The butter tarts – made from a family recipe – are incredible; arrive early or order ahead because they sell out fast. Settle into the retro vibe for a few minutes before wandering back along Queen West.

SOMA Chocolatemaker Cacao Bean Lab（チョコレート工場＆カフェ）
ブロック・アベニューにある「ソマ・チョコレートメーカー」は、「カカオ・ビーン・ラボ」の名で知られています。ここは、カカオ豆からチョコレートバーになるまでの全工程を手がける「ビーントゥバー」の小さな工場でありながら、カフェも併設されたユニークな場所です。店内では、チョコレート作りに使われる機械を間近に見ることができるほか、できたてのチョコレートバーやトリュフを購入したり、ココア、コーヒー、ジェラートなどを味わいながらゆっくり過ごすこともできます。数々の賞に輝く彼らのチョコレートが、どのようにして生み出されているのかを垣間見ることができる、リラックスした雰囲気の空間です。

SOMA Chocolatemaker’s Brock Avenue location, known as the Cacao Bean Lab, is both a small factory and café where their bean-to-bar chocolate is made. Visitors can see some of the equipment used in the process, pick up bars and truffles, or sit down with a hot chocolate, coffee or gelato. It’s a laid-back spot that gives a glimpse into how their award winning chocolate comes to life.

Studio Brillantine（デザインショップ）
1997年のオープン以来、多くの人に愛され続ける、まるでデザインの宝箱のようなショップです。ALESSIに代表されるデザインハウスのモダンなオブジェから、スタジオジブリの人気アイテム、遊び心あふれるコレクションまで、幅広い品々で溢れています。パークデールにある店内は、ギャラリーのようでもあり、宝探しをしているようなワクワク感も味わえます。デスクアクセサリーやインテリア雑貨、何が入っているか開けるまでのお楽しみのブラインドボックスなど、「楽しさ」と「実用性」を両立させる確かな目で選ばれたものが並んでいます。現在は予約制を採用しており、リラックスした特別な雰囲気の中で、ゆっくりと店内をご覧いただけます。

A beloved design trove since 1997, filled with modern objects, character goods, and playful collectibles from design houses like ALESSI alongside Studio Ghibli favorites. The Parkdale shop feels part gallery, part treasure hunt, with desk accessories, home pieces, and blind-box surprises curated with a sharp eye for joy and utility. Visits are currently by appointment, which makes browsing feel relaxed and personal.

Kaminari Ramen & Bar（レストラン＆バー）
お店から歩いてすぐの場所にある「Kaminari」は、東京の雰囲気を感じさせるクールな空間で、心温まる美味しいラーメンを味わえるお店です。コシのある麺と、こだわりが感じられるトッピングが魅力です。美味しい食事はもちろん、バーとしておつまみやカクテルを楽しむのにも気軽に立ち寄れます。特定の曜日にはランチも楽しめ、ほとんどの日は夜遅くまで営業しているので、日中の休憩にも、一日のリラックスした締めくくりにもぴったりです。

Just a short walk from the shop, Kaminari serves comforting bowls of ramen with springy noodles and thoughtful toppings in a cool venue with a Tokyo vibe. It’s an easy stop for a delicious meal, bar snacks and/or cocktails. Open late most nights and at lunch on select days, it works for a midday break or a relaxing end to the day.

The MoMo House（Parkdale）（レストラン）
私たちのお店があるのは、美味しいチベット料理店が集まる「リトル・チベット」と呼ばれるエリアです。中でもスタッフのお気に入りは、カジュアルで活気あふれる「The MoMo House」。その名の通り、手作りの「モモ」（チベット風餃子）が看板メニューのお店です。訪れたら、ぜひ数種類を注文してシェアするのがおすすめ。カリカリとした衣の食感が楽しい「Kurkure MoMo」、ピーマンと和えた「Chilly MoMo」、風味豊かなスープ仕立ての「Jhol MoMo」など、多彩なモモを味わえます。お店からも歩いてすぐ。居心地の良い空間で美味しい料理を楽しめる、とっておきの場所です。

Our shop sits in Little Tibet, surrounded by a wonderful selection of Tibetan restaurants. A shop favourite is The MoMo House, easygoing and lively, with handmade MoMos at the center of the menu. Order a mix to share, like Kurkure MoMo with a crisp and crunchy coating, Chilly MoMo tossed with peppers, or Jhol MoMo bursting with flavour. It is a comfortable, tasty stop and a short walk from the shop.

Bang Bang Ice Cream & Bakery: A favourite on Ossington when you’re in the mood for something cold and sweet. Small-batch flavours change often, and the classic favourite is an ice cream sandwich with two fresh-baked cookies. On warm days there’s usually a quick moving line and the stroll back along Ossington is part of the treat.

A dependable stop for vintage clothing and oddities with fresh stock constantly landing. It is the kind of place where you find a graphic tee, a worn-in denim jacket, and something you did not know you needed. If you have extra time, there is also a Kensington location across town.

クイーン・ストリート・ウエストを東へ少し歩くと、オシントン・アベニューに突き当たります。クイーン・ストリートとダンダス・ストリートに挟まれたこの通りには、レストランやバー、小さなギャラリーが点在し、魅力的なスポットが次々と現れます。夜は活気にあふれ、午後のゆったりとした時間を過ごすのにもいいかもしれません。私たちのお店を訪れる前や後に、足を止めて道行く人々を眺めたり、軽く食事をとったりするのにもぴったりの場所です。

A short walk east along Queen Street West brings you to Ossington Avenue. Between Queen and Dundas it’s one good stop after another, with restaurants, bars, and small galleries tucked along the way. Lively in the evening and lovely for a slow afternoon, it’s an easy place to pause, people watch, and grab a bite before heading to or from our shop.
