J18 Showa Eighteen / Chiayi City Historial Relic Museum was built in the 18th year of the Showa era (1943) during the period of Japanese rule. J18 consists of two Japanese-style “Shoin-zukuri” buildings (書造院) that were used as the guest hall (齋館) and administration office (社務所) of the Chiayi Shrine. The two buildings were designated a City Historical Site by the Chiayi City Government. The guest hall now offers light meals made from local ingredients, drinks, and souvenirs, while the administration office displays relevant exhibits and provides kimono rental for visitors to experience Japanese culture and daily life.
